    An Experimental and Analytical Study of a Radiative Cooling System with Flat Plate Collectors

    AbstractA nocturnal radiative cooling system with flat plate solar collectors in Beijing, is assessed both experimentally and numerically. A cooling loop, including a radiator, a storage tank, pump, radiant floor and connecting pipes has been studied experimentally. The heat loss of an uncovered night-sky radiator was analysed according to radiation and convection theory. The water is circulated through the flat-plate radiator having 2 m2 of collector area at night to be cooled by convection and radiation to sky. The results indicate that the minimum temperature of the floor surface is 19.5°C. Vertical temperature field is uniform. Design temperature can increase 1°C compared with conventional heat convection. The average net cooling reached 26W/m2, as condensation does not occur. It is possible to increase the total cooling capacity while maintaining a low pressure drop. It demonstrates the feasibility of cooling using fluid medium through nocturnal radiation

    Protective effect of Acorus tatarinowii extract against alzheimer in 3xTg-AD mice

    Purpose: To investigate the protective effect of Acorus tatarinowii extract (ATE) against Alzheimer's disease in 3xTg-AD mice. Method: The cognitive function of 3xTg-AD mice was assessed using Morris water maze test. The levels of the amyloid beta deposits and NeuN in the hippocampus were evaluated by immunohistochemical assay while brain neurotrophic derived factor (BDNF) and tyrosine kinase B (TrkB) expressions were determined by western blot analysis. Results: ATE treatment significantly ameliorated learning and memory deficits in AD mice, as shown by increased time spent in the target zone during probe tests. The escape latency in animals treated with 600 mg/kg ATE (24.8 ± 1.3 s) was significantly increased relative to ontreated 3xTg-AD mice (8.5 ± 1.0 s, p < 0.01). In addition, ATE significantly decreased Aβ deposits, increased NeuN-positive cells, and upregulated the expression of BDNF (1.9 ± 0.4, p < 0.05) and TrkB (1.9 ± 0.2, p < 0.05) in 3xTg AD mice. Conclusion: These results suggest that ATE treatment may be a useful strategy for managing memory impairment induced by several neurodegenerative diseases

    On the Robustness of Average Losses for Partial-Label Learning

    Partial-label (PL) learning is a typical weakly supervised classification problem, where a PL of an instance is a set of candidate labels such that a fixed but unknown candidate is the true label. For PL learning, there are two lines of research: (a) the identification-based strategy (IBS) purifies each label set and extracts the true label; (b) the average-based strategy (ABS) treats all candidates equally for training. In the past two decades, IBS was a much hotter topic than ABS, since it was believed that IBS is more promising. In this paper, we theoretically analyze ABS and find it also promising in the sense of the robustness of its loss functions. Specifically, we consider five problem settings for the generation of clean or noisy PLs, and we prove that average PL losses with bounded multi-class losses are always robust under mild assumptions on the domination of true labels, while average PL losses with unbounded multi-class losses (e.g., the cross-entropy loss) may not be robust. We also conduct experiments to validate our theoretical findings. Note that IBS is heuristic, and we cannot prove its robustness by a similar proof technique; hence, ABS is more advantageous from a theoretical point of view, and it is worth paying attention to the design of more advanced PL learning methods following ABS
